Patriots Equal Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Years with Win Over Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs in the present year
New England tied their longest winning run from the Brady period as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eight-game winning streak for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's last year with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph bolsters the New England's lead at the summit of the division as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the New York at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields running in a short rushing score to cap the Jets' initial series
But the home team answered in the second period as Henderson scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to make it 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been fantastic for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of Henderson. "He aims to be great."
Justin Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the Jets but Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side wrapped up the triumph
